Don’t look like this guy this winter…

As adorable as little little guy is, if you look anything like him when you’re in your home, it’s time to think about where your heat is going. An area that a lot of people don’t think about when keeping warm over the winter is attic insulation levels. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t important! Want to know what poor attic insulation looks like from the OUTSIDE of your home? Just Check out this house:

You can actually SEE the areas where there is insufficient attic insulation and heat escaping. Any time you see blocks of areas on a roof, such as this house, that are melting significantly faster than others, chances are there are areas that are not properly insulated. That’s your hard earned dollars just seeping out your roof.
To stay warm this winter, and save on those energy costs, here’s what we recommend:
- Have your attic insulation inspected. You want at least an R-Value of 50 (or approximately 16 inches of insulation) for efficient insulation.
- If you don’t have an R-Value of 50, you want to get that insulation topped up to lower those energy costs and make those winters (especially in Canada) more comfortable indoors.
- If you have a history of animal damage or roof leaks, you want to address those issues BEFORE you get your insulation upgraded. If your current insulation is damaged by animals or water, for health reasons it will need mitigation and removal before new insulation can be installed.
- Make sure you’re attic is properly vented. Good air flow is important for proper attic function.
Stay warm this winter!
